Jagat the Movie - My Personal Opinion

For the first time, a movie had made me feel uneasy from the beginning until the very end and yet, I wanted more.
The first thing that I noticed was all the actors seemed so natural and they were on par if not way better than most experienced artists. My heartiest congratulations to the director and the casting team for giving us such talented artists to the Malaysian film industry.
Apoi, Mexico, Chicago, Maniam were very very convincing playing their characters. The rest of the characters were no less performers from these four guys but personally I really loved them.

A story that revolves around Maniam's family. It is a story about Apoi and the education system. A system that ruined the creativity and freedom to express himself freely.  The dialogues about memorizing multiplication and calculator, flying pen, how he created the Michael Jackson suit was among few of the highlights.

A desperate father who does not understand his out of the box thinking and wants him to be like the other kids and follow the education system to succeed in life. Apparently, education is the only way out from poverty and a ticket for a better life.
On the other hand, it is a story about Dorai became Mexico and the consequences he had to face by joining the gangster world.

These 2 stories a blended so well in the movie and the brotherly hate-love relationship was depicted perfectly as well.

The highlights :
1. Great casting
2. Great acting
3. Cinematography and Art was of high standards.
4. The dialogues - very natural and realistic and sprinkled with very little humor. Humor that really tickles your funny bones.
5. Background score definitely lifted the movie's feel and set the correct mood for the film.
6. Location. Mesmerizing.
7. Movie does not show too much violence even though it's a gangster movie. Except for one thing, excessive drinking scenes but can't be avoided due to the nature of the movie.
8. Last but not least, the Director and the whole team.Salute sama lu!

The last scene before the movie ends gave a very subtle yet a very disturbing message about some Malaysian Indians.
A truly very disturbing movie to watch BUT a movie that is not to be missed.

Only after the movie finished did I realise that there were at least 3 Malays in front of me. Not sure how many were sitting behind me.hehe...

If still not satisfied with my review, checkout the trailer to see the quality of the camerawork as well as the actors raw talents.

A film made by a Malaysian for the Malaysians.
